Technical Description
The 2017 CAT 160M AWD Motor Grader is a high-performance machine designed for demanding grading applications. It features a Cat C7.1 engine delivering 176 hp (131–147 kW) and 616 lb-ft of maximum torque, with a displacement of 7.01 L (427.8 in³), bore of 4.1 in (105 mm), and stroke of 5.3 in (135 mm). The grader is equipped with a 6 forward/3 reverse transmission and a closed-center parallel hydraulic system powered by a variable piston pump, providing up to 24,150 kPa (3,503 psi) at 2,200 rpm and a flow rate of 0–155 L/min (0–40.9 gal/min). The hydraulic system supports five hydraulic circuits and includes a gear-type transmission pump. The operator benefits from a 14 ft (4.3 m) blade with a 24 in height, 7/8 in thickness, and a 6 in end bit width, allowing for a maximum depth of cut of 30.5 in and a maximum lift above ground of 18.7 in. The blade offers a 40° forward and 5° backward tip range, 360° circle drive, and side shift capabilities of 26.1 in left and 20.2 in right. The grader has a 17.5R25 tire size, 24.1 in ground clearance at center, and a front steering angle of 47.5°. The frame steering angle is 20° left or right, with a front axle lean angle of 18° and 32° total oscillation. The ripper system includes five shank holders spaced 19.7 in apart, with a maximum depth of 16.1 in. The machine is equipped with dual circuit hydraulic service brakes, a hydraulic actuated parking brake, and a slope holding ability of 30%. Fluid capacities include 10.6 gal for the cooling system, 11.9 gal for the hydraulic system, 4.8 gal for the transmission, and 8.7 gal for the differential group.
