The DMC Q5-2S is a dual-spindle horizontal machining center engineered for efficient turning and milling operations on cylindrical workpieces. Equipped with two main spindles, each capable of 7,000 RPM (optional 8,000 RPM) with 5 HP output, the machine delivers parallel processing capabilities for increased productivity. The main spindle accommodates workpieces up to 4.530" in turning diameter and 9.840" in length, with a maximum swing of 14.170" and a 5.000" chuck diameter. The system utilizes a gang tool carrier with capacity for five turning tools, enabling two simultaneous cutting tools to operate independently on each spindle. The two-axis architecture features 11.810" X-axis travel and 9.840" Z-axis travel, both delivering 945 ipm maximum feed rates and rapid traverse speeds for optimized cycle times. The machine's configuration allows simultaneous machining on both spindles, reducing part production time significantly compared to single-spindle alternatives. This architecture is particularly suited for high-volume production of complex turned components requiring multiple operations in a single setup, minimizing secondary operations and tooling changes.
