Technical Description

This vertical CNC machining center features a CAT40 BIG-PLUS® spindle system, which provides dual contact between the shank and spindle taper as well as the spindle face simultaneously, resulting in significantly increased tool rigidity and reduced deflection. The machine accommodates 30 tools in its automatic tool changer system. With three axes of motion, the machine offers substantial travel capabilities: 50 inches on the X-axis and 20.1 inches on the Z-axis, both delivering rapid traverse rates of 1,417 inches per minute. The BIG-PLUS® spindle technology enhances performance through improved surface finish and dimensional accuracy, extended tool life, prevention of fretting corrosion, improved automatic tool changer repeatability, elimination of Z-axial movement at high speeds, and improved roundness during boring operations. The larger flange contact diameter of BIG-PLUS® tool holders—compared to conventional CAT40 holders—works in conjunction with taper contact to resist deflection, enabling superior machining accuracy. This system ensures precise tool holder positioning within one micron when loading tools via the automatic tool changer. The BIG-PLUS® design allows operators to achieve tool holder rigidity equivalent to shorter, standard CAT40 holders, effectively reducing deflection to approximately half that of traditional V-flange toolholders. Compatible with licensed BIG-PLUS® tooling, this spindle system is based on current ASME, JIS, and DIN standards, making it suitable for applications requiring high precision and rigidity in demanding cutting conditions.
