Technical Description
The JET GHB-1340A is a precision geared head bench lathe engineered for demanding machining applications. With a 13-inch swing over the bed and a 40-inch distance between centers, this lathe provides robust capacity for a wide range of turning tasks. The spindle features a 1.375-inch bore and is supported by precision roller bearings, ensuring accuracy and durability during operation. The machine is equipped with a D1-4 spindle mount and an MT-5 spindle taper with sleeve, allowing compatibility with a variety of tooling and accessories. Designed for smooth and quiet performance, the enclosed gearbox houses hardened and ground gears, while the induction-hardened and ground V-way bed enhances rigidity and long-term accuracy. The lathe offers a spindle speed range of 70 to 2,000 RPM, with 8 selectable speeds, and is powered by a 2 HP, single-phase, 230V motor (not 1.5 HP as listed). The swing over the cross slide is 7.77 inches, providing flexibility for larger workpieces. The lathe includes a gap bed section for handling oversized diameters, adjustable gibs for precise carriage and slideway alignment, and an apron-mounted spindle actuation control. Additional features include independent leadscrew and feed rod, backlash adjustment for the compound and cross slide, a tailstock with offset capability for taper turning, and a graduated quill for inch/metric measurements. Standard accessories include a 6-inch 3-jaw direct mount scroll chuck, 8-inch 4-jaw independent chuck, 12-inch faceplate, four-way tool post, steady and follow rest, metric change gears, centers, threading dial, tool box, splash guard, and micro carriage bed stop. The machine weighs approximately 1,300 lbs, reflecting its heavy-duty construction and stability.
