Technical Description
The Liebherr L566 Wheel Loader is a high-performance earthmoving machine engineered for demanding material handling tasks. With a bucket capacity of up to 5.2 cubic yards (4 m³) and a bucket width of 9.1 feet (3 m), it delivers robust loading efficiency. The loader features a 9.7-foot (3 m) arm length, 4-foot (1 m) digging depth, and a dump clearance of 10.8 feet (3 m) at maximum raise, ensuring versatility across various job sites. Its operating weight is 51,035 lbs (23,149 kg), and the static tipping weight is 34,720 lbs (15,749 kg), providing stability and safety. The L566 is powered by a D936 A7, 4-cylinder, water-cooled engine with exhaust turbo charging, externally cooled exhaust gas recirculation, and a diesel particulate filter, producing 255 hp (190 kW) at 1300 rpm and 1,033 lb-ft of torque. Fuel injection is managed via an electronic common rail high-pressure system, while the dry air filter includes a main and safety element, pre-cleaner, and service indicator. The hydraulic system utilizes a load-sensing variable axial piston pump with output and flow control, offering a pump flow capacity of 77 gallons per minute (291 l/min) and a relief valve setting of 4,351.2 psi. Cycle times are efficient, with a dump time of 3 seconds, lower time of 3.5 seconds, and raise time of 5.5 seconds. The transmission provides three forward and three reverse gears, with a maximum speed of 24.9 mph (39 kph) in both directions. The electrical system operates at 24 volts, supported by two 180 Ah batteries. The L566 is equipped with 23.5R25 L3 tires and a turning radius of 21.3 feet (6 m), ensuring maneuverability in confined spaces.
