Technical Description
The Liebherr R924 Compact Tunnel Litronic is a specialized hydraulic crawler excavator engineered for underground tunneling applications. This compact machine features a robust 129 kW (173 hp) Deutz D 934 S engine meeting Tier 4 Final emission standards, delivering efficient power at 1800 rpm with turbocharging and after-cooler technology for reduced emissions. The excavator operates at 33,000-34,500 kg (55,071.5 lbs) and accommodates tunnel heights between 5.0-8.0 meters, making it ideal for confined underground spaces.
The machine incorporates a specialized tunnel boom with dual 45-degree tilting mechanisms and optimally protected hydraulic hose routing to navigate restrictive environments. Its bucket capacity ranges from 4.6 to 5.3 cubic yards, while the hydraulic system delivers maximum flow through dual pumps with proportional controller regulation. The undercarriage features 600mm double grouser pads with three track guides per frame, reinforced mud guards, and lifetime-lubricated track rollers for enhanced durability in harsh tunneling conditions.
The cab design incorporates FOPS/FGPS structural guidelines with ROPS protection, polycarbonate windows, reinforced windshields, and an emergency exit rear window for operator safety. Electrically, the system includes a 24V/140A alternator and dual maintenance-free 135 Ah batteries. The hydraulic system features a 95.2-gallon capacity with pressure compensation, automatic lubrication, and bio-degradable oil options. Additional features include sensor-controlled engine idling, mechanical quick couplers, SAE split flanges on high-pressure lines, and complete sound insulation for reduced noise during operation.
