Technical Description
The Makino MAG3 is a high-productivity 5-axis horizontal machining center designed primarily for complex aerospace components and other demanding industries. It features a robust horizontal #40 taper spindle capable of 30,000 RPM with 30 HP (30-minute rating), optimized for high metal removal rates. The machine supports large workpieces up to 6,600 lbs with a generous table size of 118.1" x 59.1", extendable to an optional 137.79" x 59.1". It offers substantial travel in the X (118.1" standard, 157.48" optional), Y (59" standard, 70.86" optional), and Z (29.5") axes, combined with an A-axis rotary capability of 215° and a full 360° C-axis rotation for comprehensive 5-axis machining.
The MAG3 utilizes a 180-tool automatic tool changer (ATC), with an optional 120-tool capacity, delivering rapid tool changes in 8.5 seconds (tool-to-tool) and full chip-to-chip change times of 15 seconds to maximize machining uptime. Feed rates reach up to 1,000 inches per minute with rapid traverse speeds of 2,468 ipm across all linear axes, ensuring quick material approach and repositioning. The machine excels in precision contouring with its integrated multi-axis capabilities and compact spindle design, providing extensive five-face workpiece access to minimize setups.
Engineered for materials such as aluminum, titanium, and steel alloys, the MAG3 is widely deployed in aerospace, automotive, and industrial manufacturing sectors, where it delivers exceptional accuracy, high throughput, and efficient handling of large, complex parts. Its build and technology optimize continuous operation and quality in high-demand production environments.
