Technical Description
The Makino N2-5XA is a compact 5-axis horizontal machining center engineered for high-precision production of small to medium-sized components, particularly medical implants and die-cast parts. Featuring a horizontal spindle orientation with HSK-A40 taper, the machine delivers exceptional rigidity and accuracy while maintaining a minimal 47" x 78" footprint, making it ideal for space-constrained manufacturing facilities. The spindle operates at 20,000 rpm with rapid acceleration to maximum speed in just 0.8 seconds, providing exceptional performance for complex 3D contouring operations. The machine's five-axis configuration includes direct-drive trunnion-style A and B rotary axes (160° and 360° respectively), enabling five-sided part accessibility and superior contour capability through AI Contour Control (AICC) technology. With a 36-tool automatic tool changer offering rapid 2.5-second tool-to-tool change times and 4.9-second chip-to-chip cycles, the N2-5XA maximizes throughput in automated production environments. The horizontal configuration accommodates cylindrical workpieces up to 300mm diameter and 270mm height with a maximum payload of 30kg. Rapid traverse rates reach 42,000 mm/min on X and Y axes and 56,000 mm/min on the Z-axis, while cutting feedrates achieve 32,000 mm/min, enabling efficient material removal and reduced cycle times. The machine integrates Makino's Professional 6 CNC control on a Fanuc platform, featuring collision detection, smoothing functions for superior surface finishes, and automation-ready design with optional robot loading interfaces for lights-out manufacturing capability.
