Technical Description

The 1974 Caterpillar 14E Motor Grader is powered by a robust 7.01 L (427.8 in³) diesel engine delivering between 176 and 196 hp net, featuring a 4.1 in (105 mm) bore and 5.3 in (135 mm) stroke. Its hydraulic system is a closed-center, parallel circuit with a variable piston pump, producing up to 3,503 psi pressure at 2,200 rpm and a flow rate of 0-40.9 gal/min (0-155 L/min), ensuring precise blade control and responsiveness. The transmission’s hydraulic system employs a gear pump supplying 20.6 gal/min at 232-261 psi. Steering is efficient with a metering capacity of 159 cc/rev and a front steering maximum angle of 47.5°, complemented by 20° frame steering left/right and front axle oscillation of 32°. Ground clearance at the center is 10 in (255 mm). The grader blade offers a maximum lift above ground of 18.9 in (480 mm) and a cutting depth of up to 28.9 in (735 mm), with 360° blade rotation and tip angles of 40° forward and 5° backward. The drawbar circle center shifts 28.7 in right and 29.6 in left, while the moldboard side shift ranges 26.1 in left and 20.2 in right. The parking brake is hydraulic actuated, drum type with a 30% grade slope hold, compliant with ISO 3450:2011. Electrical systems feature a 12V battery and a heavy-duty 150-amp alternator at 24V. Operating speeds reach approximately 17.8 mph forward and 11.4 mph reverse.
