Technical Description

The Caterpillar CD44B Split Drum Smooth Drum Roller is an 8-ton tandem vibratory roller designed for superior compaction performance on diverse asphalt mixes and granular materials. Featuring a 59-inch (1500 mm) compaction width and 43-44 inch drum diameters, it is equipped with a durable split-drum design that allows each drum half to rotate independently. This unique design reduces mat tearing and shoving during turns, improving mat quality and machine maneuverability. The split drums are supported by an exclusive tapered roller bearing pod system which prevents contact between the drum halves, enhancing long-term reliability. Powered by a Cat C3.4B engine with ACERTâ„¢ Technology delivering 102 hp (76 kW), the CD44B meets stringent Tier 4 Interim and Stage IIIB emissions standards. The 4-cylinder engine features a 3.9-inch bore and 4.4-inch stroke to optimize fuel efficiency while delivering consistent power. The machine offers multiple steering modes including front, rear, coordinated front/rear, and crab steering, enabling a tight 115-inch inside turning radius and enhanced operator control. The vibratory system provides dual amplitude/frequency settings with centrifugal forces up to 17,602 lbs per drum, adjustable independently for front and rear drums to match site conditions. Hydraulic direct eccentric weight drives are auto-reversing, and a large 159-gallon water spray tank supports effective dust control and asphalt surface cooling. With a maximum operating weight near 18,500 lbs (with cab), a 36-gallon fuel tank, and robust ground clearance (0.9 ft), the CD44B is engineered to maximize compaction productivity, operator comfort, and reliability on demanding construction sites.
