Technical Description
The Fives Giddings & Lewis PT 1500 Horizontal Machining Center is a heavy-duty, high-precision machining platform designed for large workpieces and demanding industrial applications. It features a rigid one-piece column base and bed ensuring excellent stiffness and stability under heavy loads, capable of supporting workpieces up to 55,100 lbs. The table size measures 59.1 inches by 118.1 inches, accommodating large parts with ample surface area. The horizontal spindle uses a #50 ANSI B5.50 taper (optionally SK 50), delivering up to 4,000 RPM with a 60 HP motor rated for 30 minutes, providing robust cutting power.
This machining center includes an automatic tool changer (ATC) holding 60 tools, upgradeable to 120, enabling highly flexible and efficient machining operations with minimal downtime. The machine operates across 4 axes, with an optional 5th axis, and offers travels of 118.1" (X), 82.7" (Y, expandable to 122"), and 31.5" (Z, expandable to 49.1"), with a B-axis rotation of 360°, facilitating complex geometries and multi-faceted machining. All axes support rapid traverse and max feed rates of 984 inches per minute, ensuring swift material handling and reduced cycle times.
