Technical Description

The Fives Giddings & Lewis RT 1250 is a robust 5-axis horizontal machining center designed for heavy-duty precision machining. It features a large work table with dimensions of 49.1" x 63" (opt. 63" x 70.9"), capable of supporting workpieces up to 33,100 lbs. The machine's horizontal spindle, with a #50 ANSI B5.50 taper (optional SK 50), operates at speeds up to 4,000 RPM (3,500 RPM optional) powered by a 60 hp motor with a 30-minute rating. A 60-tool automatic tool changer (ATC) is standard, expandable to 120 tools, enabling efficient machining cycles with virtually instantaneous tool changes. Its axis travels include a 98.4" X-axis (optional 141.7"), 86.6" Y-axis (optional 122"), 31.5" Z-axis (optional 49.1"), and a full 360° rotation on the B-axis, providing versatile 5-axis machining capability. All linear axes achieve rapid traverse rates of 984 inches per minute. The machine’s rigid cast iron construction, one-piece column base, and hydrostatic 10-ton table clamping ensure exceptional stiffness and accuracy for machining large, complex components. Additional options enhance flexibility and productivity with programmable coolant systems, multiple headstocks, contouring heads, programmable boring bars, high-pressure thru-spindle coolant, and CNC controls such as Siemens 840D or Fanuc 310i. Integrated probing and chip management features support automated, precise manufacturing processes. The RT 1250 excels in heavy machining applications requiring large capacity, high rigidity, and precision control.
