Technical Description
The 2011 Haas EC-500 Horizontal Machining Center is a high-performance, industrial-grade CNC machine designed for heavy-duty milling and production machining. It features a robust 70-station side-mount tool changer, enabling extensive tool capacity for complex, multi-step machining operations without frequent tool changes. The EC-500 utilizes a CAT 40 taper spindle, powered by a 20 HP vector drive motor, capable of spindle speeds up to 8,000 to 12,000 RPM depending on configuration, facilitating high-speed precision cutting and excellent surface finishes. The machine’s travel envelope covers 32 inches along the X-axis, 20 inches on the Y-axis, and 28 inches vertically on the Z-axis, accommodating larger workpieces and tombstones.
The pallet system includes a dual pallet changer with 500 mm (approximately 19.7 inches) square pallets and full 4th-axis indexing with a 1-degree resolution, supporting up to 1,000 lbs per pallet. This built-in pallet changer optimizes workflow by allowing one pallet to be loaded or unloaded while machining continues on the other, increasing productivity in unattended or high-volume production environments. Additional features include through-spindle coolant delivery rated at 300 PSI for improved cutting tool cooling and chip evacuation, programmable coolant nozzles, rigid tapping, spindle orientation capabilities, and an auxiliary coolant filtration system.
The control system is a Haas CNC controller, offering intuitive programming with wireless probing capabilities for rapid setup and in-process inspection. The machine also includes a rear-exit chip conveyor and chip auger for efficient chip management, a remote jog handle, USB connectivity, and internal high-voltage isolated transformer powering the system. Overall, the 2011 Haas EC-500 is engineered for precision, reliability, and high throughput in demanding manufacturing contexts.
