A+Technical Description
The INDEX TRAUB MS16 Horizontal Machining Center is a high-performance, multi-spindle CNC lathe designed for precision and efficiency in high-volume production environments. Featuring six main spindles, each capable of 10,000 RPM and 20 HP, and a sub-spindle with 10,000 RPM and 16 HP, the MS16 delivers exceptional power and speed for demanding turning applications. The machine supports a maximum bar diameter of 0.630" (16 mm) and a main spindle turning length of 2.750" (70 mm), with the sub-spindle extending up to 5.500" (140 mm) for rear-end machining. The primary tool carrier is a cross slide with up to 5 turning and 5 rotary tools, while the secondary tool carrier is a grooving slide, also supporting 5 turning and 5 rotary tools, enabling up to 11 simultaneous cutting tools for maximum productivity. The MS16 offers standard on-center and off-center mill/drill functions, with optional C-axis and Y-axis capabilities for advanced milling and drilling operations. The machine’s 12-axis control system, combined with a fluid-cooled spindle drum and three-part Hirth coupling, ensures high precision, thermal stability, and rapid indexing. The MS16 is equipped for flexible tooling configurations, including polygon turning, live tooling, and complete machining, making it ideal for complex, high-accuracy parts in a compact footprint.
