Technical Description

The Kitamura HX400iG/500 Horizontal Machining Center features a robust design with 24-inch travel on the X, Y, and Z axes, supporting versatile 3-axis machining. It has a 15.75" x 15.75" (400 x 400 mm) pallet size and a maximum workpiece diameter of approximately 24.8 inches, accommodating a range of mid-size parts. The spindle is direct drive with a No. 40 NST taper and operates at speeds up to 15,000 RPM, with an optional upgrade to 20,000 RPM for high-speed applications. The machine includes a 50-tool automatic tool changer, facilitating efficient production workflows, and supports rapid feed rates of 60 m/min (2,362 ipm) on the linear axes and 45,000 degrees per minute on the 4th axis rotary table. The CNC control system is a Kitamura Arumatik-Mi, offering high-precision contour control with advanced features such as 1680-block look ahead and super smooth surface (SSS) control for complex mold and contour machining. The machine construction employs induction-hardened solid box guideways with linear scale feedback on all axes, ensuring exceptional positioning accuracy of ±0.002 mm across the full stroke and repeatability of ±0.001 mm. The 2-station automatic pallet changer (APC) allows quick 8.5-second pallet swaps, boosting productivity. Additional features include ballscrew cooling for thermal stability, a rigid Meehanite cast iron base, and expandable tooling capacity up to 200 tools in the field.
