Technical Description
The LeTourneau L1850 wheel loader is a heavy-duty machine designed for large-scale material handling with a 33 cubic yard (25 m³) heaped bucket capacity and a breakout force of 276,181 lbs (125,275 kg). It features a 21 ft (6 m) wide bucket and offers a dump clearance of 22.4 ft (7 m) at maximum lift. The loader measures 58.5 ft (18 m) in length with the bucket on the ground, a height of 22 ft (7 m) to the top of the cab, a wheelbase of 23 ft (7 m), and a width over tires of 19.9 ft (6 m), with a ground clearance of 2.5 ft (1 m). Powered by a turbocharged Cummins QSK 60 engine, it delivers 2000 hp (1,491 kW) from a 16-cylinder displacement of 2746 cu in and operates at 1900 rpm. The hydraulic system utilizes a 500 gal/min (1,893 l/min) piston pump with a relief valve setting of 3300 psi, enabling a bucket dump time of 4 seconds, lower time of 6 seconds, and raise time of 14 seconds. The loader's operating weight is approximately 506,000 lbs (229,522 kg), equipped with 58/85-57 84 PR (L-4) tires, and features a turning radius of 43.1 ft (13 m). It employs an infinitely variable transmission providing a maximum speed of 10.6 mph (16 kph) in both forward and reverse. Cooling and operating fluid capacities include 109.9 gal (413 l) cooling system fluid, 53.9 gal (201 l) engine oil, and a 1050 gal (3,974 l) fuel tank, among others. The rear axle allows a 22° oscillation for terrain adaptability. The L1850 High Lift variant features slightly adjusted specs including a 31 cu yd (24 m³) bucket capacity, slightly higher dump clearance (24.2 ft/7 m), and an operating weight of 511,000 lbs (231,790 kg).
