Technical Description

The Makino A51NX-5XU is a 5-axis horizontal machining center engineered for high-precision small-part production and complex component manufacturing. This machine combines the proven structure of Makino's industry-leading A51NX platform with an integrated 5th-axis table and advanced workpiece automation capabilities. The system accommodates X, Y, and Z linear travels of 22.8", 25.2", and 19.7" respectively, with rapid traverse rates reaching 2,362 ipm across all three axes. The spindle delivers 14,000 rpm with 240 Nm of torque, supporting both ferrous and non-ferrous material machining. Tool management is exceptional, featuring a 313-tool capacity with ultra-fast tool-to-tool change times of 0.9 seconds and chip-to-chip times of 2.4 seconds, minimizing non-productive dwell time. The A51NX-5XU's rigid bed casting with three-point leveling and tiered column design provides outstanding dynamic stiffness and vibration management for superior cutting stability. Direct-drive motors on the B- and C-axes deliver rapid traverse rates of 75 rpm and 150 rpm respectively, with jacket cooling eliminating thermal deformation for repeatable accuracy. Ideal for aerospace, medical, and rotating cutting tool manufacturing, this horizontal configuration eliminates recutting of chips and stack-up errors inherent in vertical machines. The integrated workpiece automation and large dual-contact tool holder capacity (BBT50) enable continuous, unattended production in both high-mix and high-volume environments.
