A+Technical Description
The Makino MCD1516-5XA is a 5-axis horizontal machining center engineered for high-precision, complex die and mold machining. It features a robust horizontal spindle with up to 6,000 rpm (with higher speeds optional), delivering a 30 kW (29.5 HP) spindle motor to handle heavy-duty cutting on large workpieces up to 2 meters in diameter and 2.3 tons in weight. The robust 120-position automatic tool changer (ATC) accommodates a comprehensive tooling setup, enabling efficient machining cycles. The machine’s travels are extensive, with X-axis travel of 59.1" (1,500 mm), Y-axis travel of 63.0" (1,600 mm), and Z-axis travel of 51.2" (1,300 mm), all supporting rapid traverse speeds up to 630 ipm (approximately 16 m/min). It uses a horizontal orientation with a trunnion-style 5-axis rotary table allowing simultaneous multi-axis machining for intricate features and complex geometries. The pallet measures 39.4" x 39.4" (1,000 mm x 1,000 mm) with a capacity of up to 2,000 kg, ensuring stable support for heavy, large parts. The machine supports multiface indexing and continuous 5-axis control for high accuracy and speed. It also offers a HSK-A100 or HSK-A50 spindle taper option depending on configuration and can be configured with dual pallets for increased throughput. The MCD1516-5XA integrates advanced CNC control, such as the Makino PRO 3, for precise tool and axis management, providing rapid and accurate machining in tool and mold production environments.
