The Makino MCD1816 is a robust 4-axis horizontal machining center designed for high-speed, high-precision machining of heavy dies, molds, and large parts. It features a large worktable measuring 70.9" x 51.2", capable of supporting workpiece weights up to 19,800 lbs. The machine utilizes a #50 spindle taper with a top standard spindle speed of 4,000 RPM, optionally up to 15,000 RPM, powered by a 30 HP (30-minute rating) spindle motor with an optional upgrade to 67 HP for heavy-duty cutting. It includes an automatic tool changer (ATC) accommodating 30 tools standard, expandable to 280 tools, with a standard dual-pallet changer system for efficient workpiece handling. The machine offers large axis travels of 70.9" in X, 63" in Y, and 51.2" in Z, all capable of rapid traverse rates up to 630 inches per minute, along with a B-axis rotary table capable of full 360° rotation with 0.0001° indexing, enhancing multiaxis machining flexibility. High rigidity and precise table indexing support deep-end milling and demanding mold and die applications. The fully enclosed splash guard with chip conveyors ensures chip and coolant management for continuous operation. Control is typically provided via Makino's Professional 5 CNC or Fanuc 16iM, supporting advanced machining strategies and automation integration.
