Technical Description

The Makino N2-5XA is a compact, high-precision 5-axis horizontal machining center ideal for complex, small-part machining such as medical implants and die casting components. It features an 11.81" x 11.81" table supporting workpieces up to 66 lbs, with five axes of motion: X, Y, Z linear travels of 11.81", 11.81", and 9.06" respectively, plus rotary A-axis (±150°) and full 360° B-axis direct-drive rotation. The spindle is a high-speed horizontal HSK-A40 taper capable of 20,000 RPM, delivering 10 HP (30-minute rating) with rapid acceleration to max speed in 0.8 seconds. The machine employs a 14-tool automatic tool changer (ATC), expandable to 21 tools, with fast 2-second tool change and 3-second chip-to-chip times, enhancing productivity. The N2-5XA’s high feed rates support rapid traverse speeds up to 1,653 ipm in XYZ directions, with precise control through Makino’s Professional 6 CNC control, which includes smoothing functions for superior surface finish quality. Its robust, ram-style spindle configuration and massive bearing support ensure rigidity and accuracy to hold tolerances down to 0.0001". Additional features include collision-safe guarding and readiness for automation with front door robot loading and hydraulic/air lines for fixture integration. Overall, the N2-5XA balances compact size, rigidity, and flexible 5-axis capability to deliver fast cycle times, exceptional surface finishes, and versatility for demanding high-precision small component manufacturing.
