A+Technical Description
The Makino T4 Horizontal Machining Center is a high-performance 5-axis CNC machine engineered for machining large aerospace-grade titanium and titanium alloy components. Its worktable measures 157.5" x 59.1" and supports workpieces up to 11,022 lbs, enabling efficient processing of sizable parts such as edge frames, pylons, and bulkheads. The machine features a rigid construction and an Active Dampening System to minimize cutting vibrations inherent in titanium machining, enhancing precision and tool life. Equipped with a powerful HSK-A125 spindle delivering 133 HP (30-minute rating) and up to 4,000 RPM, the T4 provides high torque (738 ft-lbs continuous) for sustained heavy cutting. It offers extensive axis travels of 165.3" (X), 78.7" (Y), 39.4" (Z), and 220° rotation on the A-axis, enabling complex 5-axis machining capabilities. The maximum rapid traverse and feed rates reach 630 inches per minute on linear axes for efficient material removal. The T4 comes standard with a 120-tool automatic tool changer (ATC), with options to expand to 180 tools, supporting tool change times as fast as 20 seconds, and chip-to-chip times of 40 seconds. A high-pressure, high-flow coolant system assists in thermal control, improving productivity and tool longevity. Optional features include a pallet changer for continuous operation. This machining center embodies Makino’s ADVANTiGE technology, providing significant improvements in titanium machining efficiency, throughput, and tool durability, making it ideal for demanding aerospace manufacturing environments.
