Technical Description
The Makino V56I Graphite Vertical Machining Center is a high-precision, three-axis CNC machine designed primarily for die, mold, and graphite electrode machining. It features a substantial 41.3" x 21.6" worktable supporting up to 1,760 lbs workpieces, with travel axes of 35.4" (X), 21.6" (Y), and 17.7" (Z), each capable of rapid traverses up to 787 inches per minute. The machine is equipped with a vertical CAT 40 spindle, optionally upgraded to HSK 63A, with a standard top speed of 20,000 RPM and an optional 30,000 RPM, delivering up to 25 HP (30-minute rating), or 23 HP in the optional configuration. The spindle utilizes Makino's patented core-cooling and under-race lubrication system to minimize thermal distortion and vibration, ensuring sustained accuracy during high-speed operation. The V56I employs advanced core-cooled ballscrews, support bearings, and a cooled saddle with a Nano slideway design for precise thermal growth control throughout extended cycle times. The tool magazine offers 60-tool capacity with an automatic tool changer providing a 6.5-second tool-to-tool time. An optional pallet changer is available for enhanced productivity. The machine is fully enclosed with a splash guard and integral dust collection system, effectively containing graphite dust for a clean environment. Control is managed via Makino’s Professional 6 CNC with proprietary SGI.5 servo control, enabling consistent high-speed, high-accuracy machining with user-friendly graphical interface. The compact, vibration-reducing design with optimized axis layout ensures mechanical rigidity, precision, and performance across the full machining envelope, making it ideal for complex, high-precision milling applications in graphite, steels, and other materials.
