Technical Description
The SUMMIT BIG SWING 42X120 manual lathe features a robust 42-inch swing over the bed and a generous 120-inch distance between centers, accommodating large workpieces with precision. It is equipped with a 6.09-inch (6.1-inch nominal) forged, chrome alloy spindle bore designed for high strength and durability, mounted on three precision bearings for stable, smooth operation. The lathe construction employs a heavy-duty, fully ribbed, closed-grain cast iron bed 27.5 inches wide, with induction-hardened and precision ground bedways that ensure rigidity and long-term accuracy during machining. Its clutched headstock and dynamically balanced anti-friction mounted shafts contribute to reliability and smooth spindle rotation. The machine includes a quick-change gearbox capable of cutting American (inch), metric, and module threads, enabling versatile threading operations. Additional features are a rapid traverse carriage controlled by a four-way joystick, two-speed tailstock, and a large spindle bore allowance for running sizable bar stock or tooling. Standard accessories include a thread dial, steady and follow rests, cooling system, taper attachment, work light, splash guard, and 3- and 4-jaw chucks, all enhancing the lathe's usability and precision. Available in stepped speed and variable speed variants, this lathe is engineered for heavy-duty oil country, engine, and precision turning tasks, setting a benchmark for large manual lathes in its class with exceptional depth of features, high rigidity, and operational versatility.
