Technical Description

The TRAUB TNK42 is a precision CNC automatic lathe featuring a compact 5.5 m² footprint designed for complex machined part production. The machine accommodates workpieces up to 1.650" bar diameter with a maximum turning diameter of 4.430" and length of 9.800". Equipped with dual work spindles operating at 7,000 rpm with 29 kW and 65 Nm capability on the main spindle and 12 kW and 22.5 Nm on the counter spindle, the TNK42 delivers high production rates. The system incorporates two tool turrets—an upper turret with 10 tool stations and a lower turret—providing up to 27 total tool stations with simultaneous access to three cutting tools. Both turrets feature interpolated Y-axis functionality, generating ±50 mm travel through coordinated movement of the X, C, and H-axes, enabling off-center drilling and surface milling operations. The powerful rotary tool drives deliver 5 kW, 8 Nm, and 12,000 rpm capability for secondary milling and drilling functions with full C-axis and Y-axis offsets. The machine operates on a vertical cast bed mounted on a heavy damped base supporting precision cutting. Ten-axis CNC control enables rapid chip-to-chip times of 0.4 seconds through turret indexing as a rotary axis. The counter spindle features unrestricted three-axis movement (X/H/Z) with 42 mm spindle clearance. CNC-controlled shuttle workpiece removal ensures fast, gentle part handling, making the TNK42 ideal for high-volume production of intricate turned components requiring minimal floor space.
