Technical Description

This CNC lathe features a maximum swing of 44.7 inches and a machining length of 360 inches, making it suitable for large-diameter and long-part turning operations. The machine is equipped with a Fanuc 20-TA CNC control system, an industry-standard controller known for reliability and ease of use. The Fanuc 20-TA provides a 9-inch monochrome monitor and a 44-key keypad for intuitive operation, supporting both diameter and radius programming, as well as absolute and incremental modes. The control offers two-axis (X and Z) digital readout, constant surface speed (CSS) control for both manual and automatic operations, and triple electronic handwheels for precise manual control with selectable sensitivity (0.0001”, 0.001”, 0.01”). Programming is enhanced with conversational graphics, background editing during program execution (optional), and Custom Macro B support (optional). The system supports 63 part programs and includes backlash and ballscrew pitch error compensation for improved accuracy. Full CNC control of coolant and work light functions is available via M-codes, and the control features a built-in RS-232 port for program transfer. The Fanuc 20-TA also provides self-diagnostics with on-screen error messages, easy one-touch X-Z coordinate system setting, and CNC “RUN VERIFY” via joystick or handwheel. The control supports inch/metric input and display, and offers multiple operation modes including MEM, EDIT, MDI, Manual, Handwheel, and Reference Return. Auxiliary modes such as Dry Run, Single Block, and Optional Block Skip are included, along with manual interrupt functions for handwheel and spindle. The system is designed for efficient, high-precision turning of large workpieces in demanding industrial environments.
