A+Technical Description
The Caterpillar CB44B is a rugged tandem vibratory smooth drum roller designed for efficient compaction on asphalt and granular materials. Featuring 59-inch (1500 mm) wide drums with a diameter of 43-44 inches, it provides a maximum compaction width of 65 inches and an operating width of 66 inches. The roller measures 14.8 ft in length, 5.5 ft in width, and 117 inches in height to the top of ROPS/FOPS. It has a tight turning radius of approximately 176 inches inside the drum edge, and a wheelbase of 10.9 ft, enabling excellent maneuverability in confined spaces. Powered by a Cat C3.4B engine with ACERT technology rated at 102 hp (76 kW), the machine meets Tier 4 Interim and Stage IIIB emissions standards, offering smooth and efficient power delivery. The hydrostatic drive system includes a two-speed transmission with a maximum travel speed of 7.5 mph (11 kph). The CB44B’s vibratory system uses hydraulic direct, auto-reversing eccentric weight drives on the drums, providing independent vibration control per drum (front only, rear only, or both) with vibration frequencies of 53.3/63.3 vpm and nominal amplitudes of 0.1 inches. The machine supports a large water spray tank capacity of 196 gallons to maintain drum surface moisture and improve compaction efficiency. Additional features include a robust frame with oscillating hitch for smooth operation on uneven terrain, advanced control systems for vibratory frequency and amplitude adjustment, as well as a spacious operator platform equipped with ergonomic controls and excellent visibility. Fuel capacity is 55 gallons, ensuring extended operational times on site.
