Technical Description

The Chevalier FBL-460L is a heavy-duty 45-degree slant-bed CNC turning center with box ways, built by Chevalier Machinery; the L suffix denotes the long-bed version of the FBL-460. The bed uses a torque-tube structure of ribbed Meehanite cast iron for rigidity and vibration damping, with a low center of gravity for easy loading. Chevalier lists a Fanuc 0i-T control. Capacity includes a 33 in swing over the bed, a 26 in swing over the cover and a maximum cutting diameter of 26.7 in. The A2-15 spindle nose has a 6 in spindle hole, accepts bar material up to 5.5 in in diameter and runs to 1,500 rpm; Chevalier rates the series at up to 50 hp. X-axis travel is 14.17 in. Tooling is carried on a 12-station turret that takes 1-1/4 in square turning tools. The tailstock has a 4.3 in diameter hydraulic quill with 4.7 in of quill travel, an MT5 taper and programmable positioning. A live-tooling MC version and a standard-bed FBL-460 are built on the same platform.
