Technical Description

The GT mini is a compact gang-tool CNC lathe from Cubic Machinery, designed for secondary operations and simple turning jobs from bar stock or chucked blanks. It is built on a Meehanite cast iron base with a footprint of 48 x 40 in, and the maker rates it to hold tolerances of 0.0001 in. Maximum turning diameter is 60 mm (2.36 in) and maximum turning length is 110 mm (4.33 in). The spindle is driven by a 3 hp motor and runs from 100 to 6,000 rpm; bar capacity is 27 mm (1.06 in). Instead of a turret, tools are mounted on a gang tool plate, which avoids index time and keeps tool positions fixed; maximum OD tool shank is 5/8 in and maximum boring bar 3/4 in. Rapid traverse is 712 in/min. Control is the Mitsubishi EZMotion E60 with Mitsubishi digital AC servo drives. Standard equipment includes a hydraulic chucking system with a 5C collet nose, an air-operated M-code parts catcher, coolant, automatic lubrication of the X and Z axes, a foot switch and a standard tool holder package. Workholding options include dead-length 5C collets, 5C step chucks and a 4-inch hydraulic three-jaw chuck. The machine is pre-wired for a Fedek DH-65 bar feeder, and a rear part loader is available.
