Technical Description

The GTM-42S is the single-spindle 42 mm bar-capacity model of Cubic Machinery's GTM series of turn-mill CNC lathes, which also includes the dual-spindle GTM-42D and the 60 mm GTM-60S and GTM-60D. Instead of a turret, it uses a gang tool post carrying five turning tools, four ID tools and eight ER20 live tool stations, and it has a full Y axis with 385 mm (15.2 in) of travel. X-axis stroke is 225 mm (8.9 in) and Z-axis stroke 235 mm (9.3 in), with 15 m/min (590 ipm) rapid traverse on 5 mm pitch ground ballscrews and linear guides. Maximum turning diameter is 130 mm (5.12 in) and maximum turning length is 160 mm (6.3 in). The belt-driven A2-5 spindle has a 56 mm (2.2 in) bore and 42 mm (1.65 in) bar capacity, runs from 40 to 4,000 rpm on a 7.5 kW (10 hp) motor, and has C-axis control and a two-stage hydraulic brake. Live tools are driven by a 0.85/1 kW motor. Turning tool shanks are 16 and 20 mm and boring tools 25 mm. The base is a welded steel structure reinforced with polymer concrete to damp vibration. Workholding options include 16C and B42 dead-length collet chucks and a hydraulic three-jaw chuck; no tailstock is offered. The machine measures 98 x 75 x 71 in (2.5 x 1.9 x 1.8 m) and weighs 6,600 lb (3,000 kg).
