Technical Description
The DMG MORI ALX 1500 is a compact horizontal CNC turning center in the ALX series, built as a base machine for automated production turning. The series covers 12 models, all with a 6 in spindle chuck, in turning, milling (live tool), Y-axis and second-spindle specifications, with distance-between-centers types of 300, 500, 1000 and 2000. The maximum workpiece diameter is 17.32 in (440 mm) and the maximum bar capacity is 2.05 in (52 mm). Axis strokes are 10.2 in (260 mm) in X, 3.9 in (100 mm) in Y on Y-axis versions, and 22.6 in (575 mm) in Z on the standard bed. Rapid traverse on the X and Z axes is 1,181 ipm (30 m/min). The main spindle is DMG MORI's in-house direct-drive turnMASTER built-in motor spindle, with an enhanced labyrinth seal for high-pressure coolant and a 3-year warranty. The X axis runs on slideways for damping, while the Y and Z axes use linear motion guides; SmartSCALE full closed-loop scale feedback is optional. The 300 turning version occupies a floor area of 29.1 sq ft (2.7 m2), sized to fit the footprint of the CL1500 it replaces. Control options are the MAPPS control or a Mitsubishi CNC. The machine accepts DMG MORI gantry loaders and robot cells for unattended operation.
