Technical Description

The DMG MORI SL-603C/2000 is a heavy-duty 2-axis CNC turning center from the SL series, built on a slant-type bed with a trapezoidal bed casting and a triangular saddle. Slideways are used on all axes for rigid, stable heavy-duty cutting. The C designation denotes the large-bore spindle with a 275 mm (10.8 in) through-spindle hole; the SL-603 is also offered as Type B with a 185 mm bore and Type D with a 375 mm bore. The /2000 designation denotes the bed length: maximum workpiece length is 2,000 mm (78.7 in) with a Z-axis travel of 2,150 mm (84.6 in). X-axis travel is 485 mm (19.1 in) and maximum workpiece diameter is 930 mm (36.6 in). Chuck sizes of 18, 21 and 24 inches are offered, so the fitted chuck depends on how the machine was ordered. The turret indexes in 0.4 seconds per station. DMG MORI offers the machine with either its MAPPS control or a FANUC control; current versions provide 3D machining simulation for contour checking and conversational programming with a process menu. DMG MORI positions the SL-603 for long shaft workpieces and heavy cuts on large-diameter parts.
