Technical Description

The DMG MORI i 50 Horizontal Machining Center is a compact, high-performance 3-axis CNC milling machine optimized for mass production of precision parts such as cylinder heads and blocks. It features a horizontal spindle capable of speeds up to 15,000 RPM, with an optional increase to 20,000 RPM, providing excellent surface quality and precise chip removal due to its horizontal orientation. The machine includes a 25.2" x 19.7" fixed table supporting workpieces up to 882 lbs and a standard rotary table for enhancing machining flexibility. Its travels measure approximately 19.7" in X and Z axes and 21.7" in Y, with rapid traverse rates of up to 2,441 inches per minute (62 m/min), enabling high-speed machining with minimized vibration for stable, accurate cuts. Tooling is handled via a 20-station automatic tool changer (ATC), with an option to upgrade to 40 tools, allowing for efficient tool management in diverse production tasks. Designed for high-speed, high-precision milling, the i 50’s architecture incorporates a spindle mounted on all three linear axes with lightweight Z-axis components to achieve a Z-axis acceleration of 1.0 G. Its space-saving footprint facilitates flexible production line integration. The horizontal spindle orientation optimizes chip flow and machining depth with shorter, stiffer tools, improving productivity and quality in automotive and industrial applications.
