The DORRIES VC 3500-4000 S Vertical Machining Center is a high-capacity vertical turning lathe designed for machining large components with precision and rigidity. It supports a maximum main spindle turning diameter of 138 inches and a maximum turning length of up to 116 inches (optional). The machine features a main spindle chuck diameter up to 138 inches (optional) and a maximum swing of 157 inches, accommodating extensive workpiece sizes. Powered by an 80 HP main spindle motor, with an optional upgrade to 107 HP and spindle speed up to 200 RPM, it delivers robust cutting performance. The rotary tools feature up to 50 HP at 3,000 RPM and 40 HP at 4,000 RPM with a second tool carrier and automatic tool changer options, allowing simultaneous use of up to two cutting tools. The machine operates on a standard three-axis system (X, Y, Z), with optional four-axis configurations available. The X and Y axes each offer a travel range of 118 inches and a rapid traverse/feed rate of 472 inches per minute, while the Z-axis travel spans 21 inches (extendable to 116 inches) with a maximum feed rate of 118 inches per minute. The machine’s construction includes vibration-damping cast iron framework, hydrostatic guideways, and a rigid gantry design for high geometric accuracy and thermal stability.
