Technical Description

The Ellis 9400 Upright Drill Press features an 18-1/8 inch swing with a drilling capacity of 1-1/16 inches in mild steel and 1-1/4 inches in cast iron. Powered by a 2 HP A.C. single-phase motor operating on either 110V or 220V, the drill press offers infinitely variable spindle speeds from 0 to 1200 RPM via a solid-state control box, allowing speed adjustments during operation. It delivers full torque at low speeds and includes electronic instantaneous reversing for easy tapping without the need for a separate tapping head, supporting taps up to 3/4 inch capacity. The spindle uses a Morse Taper #3 with a 3-inch quill diameter and provides a spindle travel of 5-3/8 inches. The column diameter measures 4 inches, with a maximum spindle-to-table distance of 27-1/4 inches and spindle-to-base height of 46-1/4 inches. The robust, T-slotted worktable measures 15-7/8 by 17-7/8 inches, and the base is 16-3/8 by 26-5/8 inches, both with slots for 1/2 inch T-bolts and equipped with a coolant trough. The drill head and table rotate 360° around the column, enhancing versatility. Additional features include a quill lock, depth control, power down feed, and a heavy 675 lbs machine weight for stability and precision during drilling, reaming, and tapping tasks in various materials including metal, wood, and plastics.
