Technical Description

The Expand Machinery GENTURN 36-CS is a 7-axis CNC Swiss-type turning center that runs without a guide bushing, with a main spindle, a sub-spindle, dual C-axes and a true Y-axis. Bar capacity is 32 mm (1.25 in) as standard and 36 mm (1-3/8 in) with an adapter, through a 37 mm (1.46 in) drawtube. The main spindle turns to 6,000 rpm on five bearings, driven by a 10 hp motor through a 2:1 pulley, and takes a Brown & Sharpe #22 or Traub A-32 collet. The sub-spindle also reaches 6,000 rpm on a 5 hp motor and holds bar to 1.25 in, with an ejector, parts catcher and parts conveyor included. Main-side travels are 185 mm in X, 490 mm in Y and 165 mm in Z, with 30 m/min (1,181 ipm) rapids on all axes. The machine carries 27 tools, 11 of them driven, including four ER-20 cross-slide live tools at 2 hp and three ER-20 front-slide live tools at 1 hp, all to 4,000 rpm. A chip conveyor and dual coolant pumps with an 80-gallon tank are standard. Machine weight is 8,000 lb.
