Technical Description

The Makino A51NX-5XU is a 5-axis horizontal machining center designed for high-precision, high-productivity machining of small to medium-sized complex components, ideal for aerospace, medical, and tooling applications. It features an 11.8" x 11.8" support table capable of handling workpieces up to 66 lbs. The machine incorporates a horizontal #50 taper spindle with a 14,000 rpm speed, optionally up to 20,000 rpm, powered by a 25 to 29 HP motor ensuring high torque and cutting performance. The 5-axis configuration includes linear travels of 22.8" (X), 25.2" (Y), and 19.7" (Z), paired with a B-axis rotary table with 270° rotation, providing extensive multi-axis machining flexibility and eliminating stack-up errors common in traditional table-on-table designs. The tool system supports up to 60 tools with a standard automatic tool changer (ATC) capable of 0.9-second tool-to-tool change time and 2.4-second chip-to-chip time, with an optional capacity of up to 313 tools for extended production runs. A standard dual-pallet changer enhances automation and overall throughput. Key structural features include a rigid, tiered casting bed and direct-drive motors on the rotary axes with jacket cooling to prevent thermal deformation, ensuring stable, accurate machining over long cycles. Integrated linear guides and roller bearings contribute to long-term reliability and vibration damping, while cable management is optimized by routing cables away from the machining envelope. The machine also integrates a work pallet magazine system for automated multi-part handling, further enabling unattended, high-mix or high-volume manufacturing environments.
