The Makino A82 Horizontal Machining Center is engineered for high-performance machining of mid-sized diesel engine components and similar parts requiring extended X-axis travel. It features a rigid and stable design that supports heavy thrust forces across its work zone, ensuring precision and reliability in demanding production environments. The machine includes a 24.8" x 24.8" work table capable of handling workpieces up to 2,640 lbs, with standard indexing rotary table support and an optional 4th-axis rotary table for enhanced multi-face machining capabilities. It operates with a robust horizontal spindle featuring a #50 taper (optionally HSK100A), delivering up to 10,000 RPM and 47 HP (30-minute rating), with a high-pressure thru-spindle coolant system (up to 1000 psi) and spindle oil chiller for optimal thermal management and machining efficiency. The A82 incorporates a 60-tool automatic tool changer (expandable up to 300 tools) with a rapid tool change time of approximately 1.7 seconds, facilitating high throughput. Axes travel includes 43.3" (X), 32.3" (Y), and 40.1" (Z) with rapid traverses up to 1,969 ipm on all axes. The machine is CNC-controlled via Makino's Professional 5 or Fanuc 31iM control system, supporting up to 4-axis simultaneous contouring and equipped with probing, chip conveyors, and optional pallet changers for enhanced automation.
