The Makino UPN-01 is an ultra-precision horizontal wire electrical discharge machine engineered for micro-machining applications requiring exceptional accuracy and surface finish. With X and Y-axis travel of 160mm (6.30 inches) and Z-axis travel of 50mm (1.90 inches), the machine accommodates workpieces up to 150 x 150 x 40mm with a maximum payload of 8kg. The CNC-controlled system utilizes Makino's Hyper i control interface, featuring an intuitive 24-inch HD touchscreen display for streamlined operation. The machine achieves sub-micron level accuracy through advanced Pneumatic Static Pressure Guideways and Linear Motor motion technology, which minimize mechanical friction and inertia. Positioning and repeatability accuracy reaches ±0.5µm, with a 0.01µm scale feedback system providing a minimum programmable increment of 0.1µm. The oil-based dielectric system provides superior control of the machining spark gap, enabling surface finishes as low as 0.17µm Rz and mechanical movement roundness of 0.2µm. The UPN-01 features a unique horizontal wire drive system capable of threading start holes as small as 30µm diameter, supporting wire sizes ranging from 15µm to 0.100mm. Its 16-station automatic workpiece changer enables extended unattended operation with automatic slug ejection capability. A precision rotary C-axis achieves indexing accuracies of ±2 Arc Seconds, facilitating automatic workpiece exchange.
