Technical Description

This vertical machining center features a BIG-PLUS® ISO No. 40 spindle system with a 24-tool carousel capacity, designed for precision manufacturing applications. The BIG-PLUS® dual-contact spindle technology enables simultaneous taper and flange face contact, significantly enhancing rigidity and reducing tool deflection compared to conventional spindle systems. This results in improved surface finish, dimensional accuracy, and extended tool life while minimizing fretting corrosion and eliminating Z-axial movement at high speeds. The machine provides three-axis CNC control with substantial work envelope capabilities: 78 inches of X-travel, 33 inches of Y-travel, and 28 inches of Z-travel. Rapid traverse rates reach 800 ipm across all three axes, enabling efficient non-cutting movements and reducing cycle times. The machine utilizes the ISO No. 40 taper, a steep taper format widely adopted across the industry, with strict gauge control ensuring repeatability within one micron. The 24-tool automatic tool changer supports rapid tool selection and changeover, critical for production environments requiring frequent tool changes. The BIG-PLUS® spindle system is based on ASME B5.50, JIS B6339, and DIN 69871 standards, providing full interchangeability with licensed BIG-PLUS® toolholders. The larger contact diameter of the flange face—approximately 2.5 inches compared to 1.75 inches for conventional ISO 40 systems—delivers approximately four times greater rigidity, enabling aggressive cutting conditions and superior boring operation roundness. This configuration makes the machine suitable for demanding production applications requiring high precision and consistent performance across extended tool life cycles.
