Technical Description

The Murata (Muratec) MT20 is a high-performance horizontal machining center designed for complex, high-precision turning operations. Featuring twin opposing spindles, each with a maximum chuck diameter of 8.260" and capable of 4,000 RPM, the MT20 delivers robust power with 20 HP per spindle (optional 30 HP upgrade). The machine supports a maximum turning diameter of 11.400" and a turning length of 11.000", with a maximum bar diameter capacity of 2.500". Each spindle is equipped with a 15-station turret, allowing for up to 15 turning and 15 rotary tools, with simultaneous use of two cutting tools for enhanced productivity. Rotary tools offer up to 6 HP and 3,600 RPM for live milling and drilling operations. The MT20 provides 4-axis control as standard, with optional 5-axis capability for advanced machining flexibility. Axis travels include 9.840" on X and 11.800" on Z, with rapid traverse rates of 630 ipm on X, Y, and Z axes. The machine’s design supports high-speed, synchronized part transfer between spindles, ideal for unattended and automated production environments. With its dual turrets, live tooling, and high-speed spindles, the MT20 is engineered for maximum versatility, precision, and efficiency in demanding turning applications.
