Technical Description

The Okuma LB4000 EX II is a 2-axis slant-bed CNC turning center from Okuma's LB EX series, built on Okuma's Thermo-Friendly Concept for thermal stability and a box-way slant bed for rigidity. Swing over the bed is 26.38 in and swing over the saddle is 18.90 in, and the maximum turning diameter is 18.90 in. Maximum work length depends on the bed version: 14.96 in for the chucker, and 29.53 in, 59.06 in or 84.65 in for the center-work beds. The standard spindle has a JIS A2-8 nose, a 3.58 in bore, a 10 in chuck and a speed range of 42 to 4,200 rpm, driven by a PREX motor rated 40 hp (30 min) and 30 hp continuous. Big-Bore (A2-11, 4.41 in bore, 3,000 rpm) and Super Big-Bore (A2-15, 7.28 in bore, 1,400 rpm) spindles rated 50/40 hp were offered. Tooling is held on a 12-station V12 NC turret with 1 in OD shanks and 1-1/2 in boring bars; M (milling), Y-axis and W (sub-spindle) versions were also built. Rapid traverse is 984 ipm on X and 1,181 ipm on Z. Machine mass with CNC ranges from 13,200 lb to 24,200 lb depending on bed length. The EX II is controlled by the Okuma OSP-P300LA, which includes the OSP suite apps and ECO suite energy-saving functions.
