Technical Description

The Okuma LU300 is a 4-axis CNC turning center with two turrets, one above and one below the spindle centerline, for simultaneous cutting. It swings 20.87 in (530 mm) over the bed and 14.96 in (380 mm) over the saddle, with a maximum turning diameter of 14.57 in (370 mm). It was built as a 2ST chucker with 9.84 in (350 mm) maximum work length and in 600 mm and 1,000 mm between-centers versions, the latter two with a tailstock using a 90 mm quill, MT5 taper and 120 mm quill travel. The standard spindle has a JIS A2-6 nose, a 62 mm (2.44 in) bore and a 100 mm front bearing, and runs from 45 to 5,000 rpm in two automatic ranges switched by motor coil; an optional big-bore spindle has an 80 mm bore and runs to 3,800 rpm. The VAC integral spindle motor is rated 22 kW (29.5 hp) for 20 minutes and 15 kW continuous. The upper V12 NC turret holds 12 tools and the lower V8 turret holds 8, with 25 mm (1 in) shanks, 40 mm boring bars and 0.18 s per-station indexing. Upper X travel is 260 mm and lower X travel is 140 mm. Rapid traverse is 787 ipm in X and 984 ipm in Z. The machine uses Okuma's OSP-P200L control. Weight ranges from 6,400 kg for the chucker to 8,200 kg for the 1,000 mm version.
