Technical Description

The Okuma LU3000 EX is a two-turret, 4-axis CNC turning center in the 8 to 10 in chuck class, built by Okuma. Upper and lower turrets can cut at the same time, which gives process flexibility and high metal removal rates. The upper turret is a V12 (12 stations) and the lower turret a V8 (8 stations), and their large work ranges reduce interference between tools. The machine is built on a 45-degree box bed with box ways on all axes, which supports the carriage and cross slide, and the spindle runs on a three-point bearing support for stability and long life. Maximum turning diameter is 410 mm (16.14 in). Turning length depends on the bed: 350 mm (13.78 in) standard, with 600 mm and 1,000 mm beds available. The standard spindle has an A2-6 nose and runs from 50 to 5,000 rpm on a 22 kW (30 hp) motor, rated 15 kW (20 hp) continuous; A2-8 (4,200 rpm) and A2-11 (3,000 rpm) spindles are optional. Rapid traverse is 25 m/min on X and 30 m/min on Z. Milling, Y-axis and sub-spindle versions are offered. Machines have been supplied with Okuma OSP-P300 and, currently, OSP-P500 controls.
