Technical Description

The Okuma LU45-II is a 4-axis, 2-saddle (2SC) CNC turning center from Okuma's LU II series, built on large hardened box guideways with a live-quill tailstock and an Okuma OSP CNC control. This unit is configured with the optional Super Big Bore (SBB) spindle package and a 3,000 mm (118.11 in) distance between centers. The Super Big Bore spindle uses a JIS A2-20 nose, a 260 mm (10.24 in) spindle bore, and a 320 mm front bearing diameter, running to a maximum speed of 900 min-1 with a 45/37 kW (60.3/49.6 hp, 30 min/cont) drive motor. Maximum turning diameter is 650 mm (25.59 in) and maximum work length for this bed length is 3,000 mm (118.11 in). The machine carries two NC turrets (upper V12, lower V10) totaling 22 tool stations, with simultaneous 4-axis turning across both turrets to reduce cycle time versus single-turret lathes. Standard accessories include a hydraulic tailstock with a built-in MT No. 5 quill, coolant system, and chip shield. Per Okuma's published dimensional data for the 2SC x 3,000 configuration, the machine occupies an 8,020 x 3,043 mm footprint, stands 2,808 mm (110.55 in) tall, and weighs 25,500 kg (56,217 lb) with the CNC system installed.
