Technical Description

The Okuma MULTUS U3000 is a multitasking turning center with a B-axis turn-mill spindle, built on Okuma's Thermo-Friendly Concept. Swing over saddle and maximum machining diameter are 650 mm (25.59 in), with distances between centers of 1,000 or 1,500 mm. The main spindle has a JIS A2-6 nose, an 80 mm bore and a 50 to 5,000 min-1 range with a 22/15 kW (30 min/cont) motor; a Big-Bore main spindle (A2-8, 4,200 min-1, 140 mm bearing) is optional. The upper tool spindle runs 50 to 12,000 min-1 with a 25/19 kW (3 min/cont) motor, an HSK-A63 taper and a B-axis range of -30 to +210 degrees. A 40-tool ATC is standard. X-axis travel is 645 mm and Y-axis travel is 250 mm (plus or minus 125 mm), with 50 m/min X and Z rapid traverse. The 2S versions add a 12-station V12 lower turret with 235 mm X travel and a 320 mm swing over the lower turret. W versions add an opposing spindle; on 2SW machines it runs 38 to 5,000 min-1 with a 62 mm bore and a 22/15 kW motor. The C-axis indexes in 0.0001 degree increments. Two-saddle machines stand 3,030 mm high, and a 2S machine with 1,500 mm centers occupies 5,425 x 3,082 mm and weighs 17,500 kg.
