Technical Description

The Okuma V40R is a CNC vertical lathe built by Okuma Corporation (Oguchi, Japan), part of the 1SP-V series (alongside the V100R, V760EX and V920EX) for stable machining of thin and odd-shaped workpieces. The box-type base and column give a highly rigid structure, and a flanged headstock construction minimizes thermal deformation and vibration for accurate, stable cutting. Per Okuma's published specifications, maximum cutting diameter is 15.75 in (400 mm), maximum cutting length is 17.72 in (450 mm), maximum swing is 19.69 in (500 mm), spindle speed range is 25-2,500 rpm, and spindle power is rated 30/25 hp (22/18.5 kW). Rapid traverse on X/Z is 78.74 fpm (24 m/min). The base is designed for smooth chip flow, with an optional chip conveyor placeable for side or rear disposal. Dealer listings for 2011-2012 V40R units independently and consistently show a Fanuc 31i-A control fitted to this control-option variant of the machine, with a 12-position turret.
