Technical Description

The OmniTurn GT-75 is a gang-tooled CNC turning center built by OmniTurn in Oregon. It has a 75-degree slant bed that lets chips fall away from the cutting zone, and tools are mounted on a 6 x 14 in tooling plate with 3/8 in T-slots, so tool-to-tool changes take under half a second. The totally enclosed spindle is rated at 5 hp (3.7 kW), turns to 4,000 rpm through a belt drive, and has a 5C nose with a 4-degree camlock and an air-actuated collet closer. A chuck of up to 4 in can be fitted. Maximum cutting diameter is 6 in and bar capacity is 1.06 in, and the machine is ready for a bar feeder. C-axis positioning is optional. The axes run on precision linear guides with precision-ground, zero-backlash ball screws and a closed-loop servo system. X travel is 12 in, Z travel is 9 in, resolution is 0.00005 in and repeatability is 0.0001 in. Rapid and cutting feed rates are both 300 ipm, and threading runs from 240 tpi upward. The base is an MJ7 composite casting with a Meehanite headstock. A flood-coolant system with a 12-gallon tank is standard. The machine runs on 208-240 VAC at 20 A, needs 3 scfm of air at 70 psi, occupies 66 x 34 in of floor space and weighs 1,655 lb.
