Technical Description

The SL 2000BSY is a Y-axis slant-bed CNC turning center with a sub-spindle, built in Korea by SMEC, the machine tool company that grew out of Samsung's machine tool business and that sold these lathes under the Samsung name. It belongs to the SL 2000/2500SY series of box-guide turning centers. Swing over the bed is 25.59 in, swing over the cross-slide is 21.26 in, the maximum turning diameter is 15.55 in and the maximum turning length is 17.72 in. The main spindle has an A2-6 nose, a 2.99 in bore, an 8 in chuck and a maximum speed of 4,500 rpm, driven by an 18.5 kW (24.8 hp) maximum, 11 kW continuous motor. The built-in sub-spindle has an A2-5 nose, a 6 in chuck, 6,000 rpm and a 7.5 kW maximum motor, with C-axis indexing on both spindles. Tooling is carried on a 12-station BMT55 servo turret (24 tool positions) with 5,000 rpm rotary tools. Travels are 9.25 in on X, 4.13 in on Y (plus or minus 2.07 in) and 22.83 in on Z, with rapid traverse of 945 ipm on X, 394 ipm on Y and 1,181 ipm on Z. The machine is supplied with a FANUC 0i-TF series control with Manual Guide i, and a Siemens control is offered as an alternative.
