Technical Description

The SMEC (Samsung) SL 2000M is a 45-degree slant-bed CNC turning center in the SMEC SL 1500/2000 series, built in Korea by SMEC, the company formed from Samsung's machine tool business, and sold earlier under the Samsung name. The bed is a torque-tube design intended to support heavy turning with low vibration and thermal distortion, and the turret is servo driven to cut non-cutting time. Swing over the bed is 570 mm (22.4 in) and the maximum machining envelope is 360 mm diameter by 520 mm length. The spindle has an ASA A2-6 nose, a 8 in chuck, 68 mm bar capacity and a top speed of 4,500 rpm, driven by a 15/18.5 kW (continuous/30 min) motor. The M version adds live tooling: a 12-station BMT55 turret, taking 25 mm square shanks and 40 mm boring bars; maximum milling diameter is 372 mm. Axis travels are 215 mm in X and 560 mm in Z, with rapid traverse of 24 m/min in X and 30 m/min in Z. A tailstock with 80 mm travel is fitted. The machine weighs 4,000 kg and needs a floor space of 2,643 x 1,560 mm, or 3,713 mm long with the chip conveyor. A Fanuc CNC is standard.
