The SCHMID 356 is a high-performance horizontal machining center engineered for precision metal cutting operations on large steel components, particularly suited for bearing area machining and crane construction applications. This machine features an impressive work envelope with 299.21 inches of X-axis travel, 39.37 inches of Y-axis travel, and 21.654 inches of Z-axis travel, accommodating substantial workpieces up to 1,000mm in the Z-direction. The vertical spindle design is predominantly built beneath the floor level, operating overhead to enable heavy components to be positioned and clamped from above without interference using hoisting equipment. Powered by a robust 69.7 hp (63 kW) motor capable of generating 859 Nm of torque under S6-40% duty cycle, the spindle achieves a maximum speed of 24,000 RPM, enabling aggressive cutting parameters and optimized machining times. The machine incorporates an HSK 63 tool taper interface with an automatic tool changer featuring 60-tool capacity, facilitating rapid tool changes and minimizing non-productive cycle time.
